About Camu Camu
Camu Camu grows as a bushy shrub, 2 to 4 meters tall, in thickets along Amazonian rivers and oxbow lakes, standing partly under water for months of every year. Its round fruits turn from green to red to deep purple and ripen as the river rises, so they are often picked from canoes. The fruit is so sour that it is rarely eaten raw; in Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon, it is made into juices, ice cream and sweets.
